How Do I Know if My Car Is Safe?

Whether you’re purchasing a new vehicle or you already own a car, you always want to make sure that it is safe. Typically, this means making sure you’re performing proper maintenance like changing the brakes, checking tread, and more.

What happens, though, when there are some defects, it makes the vehicle unsafe, regardless of how much maintenance you put into the vehicle? Unfortunately, this is a far too common occurrence, putting drivers all over at risk.

Checking Auto Recalls

One of the things you want to do is check auto recalls to see if there are any issues with your specific vehicle. Recalls detail some of the vehicles that were pulled off the market for one problem or another. Typically, the recall list will show the following:

  • The vehicle: The recall will tell you the exact year, make, and model of the vehicle that has been recalled. If it’s a specific part, there may be multiple vehicles recalled if they have the same parts.
  • The number of units: There are hardly ever instances when a defective product is isolated to one or a few vehicles. Typically, there are hundreds or thousands that are recalled. The details of the recall will tell you how many.
  • The reason for the recall: Obviously, you want to know what danger is there and what is wrong with your specific vehicle. This will explain the reason for the recall whether it be a defective part on the car, a bad locking system, or anything similar.
  • What you can do: The recall will also inform you of what steps you should take. Whether you need to take the vehicle to the shop for repairs, or the car must be taken off the streets completely, this should tell you.
