Ensuring Home Safety Around the Holidays

The holidays are fast approaching. Being safe around this time of year is always on the minds of people. What can you do to ensure your safety?

1. Set a Timer – Fire safety is always important. If you can't unplug your lights, be sure to set a timer. This will help your electric bill as well! Don't just do this for the inside, but the outside as well. Your neighbors will thank you for not blinding them in the night!

2. Make Sure Your Tree Is Hydrated – When a Christmas tree dries out, it becomes more susceptible to fires. If you’re not properly watering your tree or keeping an eye on the lights, it can be difficult to prevent a serious problem. In some cases, if the tree is close to the outlet, any kind of spark can result in the tree burning up.

3. Choose Safe Products – While you want to get plenty of presents and gifts for those you love, not all items are completely safe. Unfortunately, some manufacturers are negligent in their production of vehicles and it’s important for you to recognize dangerous items and avoid them when purchasing gifts for your loved ones. This is especially true when it comes to toys that children play with and use. Make sure they are completely safe.

4. Less is More – While we all want to see many different displays, be sure not to overdo it on the circuit when plugging in your lights. The slightest spark can cause a world of disaster should sparks create a fire.

By doing these things, your chances of keeping your home safe are better. Enjoy your holidays with a peace of mind. Don't forget to be that neighbor for another if you are going to be staying home on a day they might leave!
