Why Insurance Companies Look to Minimize Claims

When insurance companies advertise on TV, they make sure to convey a friendly tone. They want you to think that they are all about your best interests and that they are all about serving you in your time of need. However, this is not necessarily the case. The truth is that many people have to deal with their claims being minimized when they are in crisis situations.

When people have a crisis situation for which they need insurance, they will often have to work directly with an insurance adjuster. The insurance adjusters are generally more about the interests of the insurance company rather than focusing on the people who need the insurance at the time, so they will do what they can to make sure that claims are minimized as much as possible.

There are many ways in which insurance adjusters will try to minimize claims:

  • They may work hidden clauses into paperwork that you have to sign, so that you end up agreeing to forsake money that you would not have forsaken by choice.
  • They may intrude into your personal space, such as showing up at your home unexpected, in order to gather what can be perceived as evidence that you do not need the claim as much as you say you do.
  • They may ask loaded questions that will end up shifting the blame on to you, so that they can make a case that you do not need or deserve the insurance.
  • They may dig up inside information about your lawyer to make your case look bad.
  • They may purposely delay your case so that you will become so frustrated that you will accept a lowball offer instead of the amount to which you were truly entitled.
  • They may tell you false information such as an offhand statement that you do not need a lawyer.

As you can see, there are many things that insurance adjusters and insurance companies will do in order to avoid having to pay out the money to which you are entitled after an accident that was beyond your control.

If you are aware of these tricks, that can be very helpful. However, there is no way to be completely aware of everything they can try, which is why it would be a good idea to work with an experienced and skilled lawyer.
