4th of July Safety Tips

This weekend, friends and family will be gathering to celebrate the Fourth of July. As you get your BBQ plans in order, we want to remind everyone to keep safety in mind. Here are a few tips to help you celebrate a safe and happy Fourth of July.

4th of July Safety Tips:

  • Designate a Driver – The Fourth of July weekend often means celebrating with family, friends, BBQs, and alcohol. If you plan on indulging this weekend, remember to have a designated driver. Always keep an eye out for other drivers and travel safely.
  • Keep An Eye On the Pool – If you will be having a pool party this weekend, remember to keep an eye on any children in the pool. Your pool should be enclosed with a fence so that access is restricted to the area for safety.
  • Be Mindful of the Grill – Make sure that your grill is a safe distance from your home and that you keep an eye on it at all times. Check the gas grill hoses for cracks and leaks before you start to BBQ. As you prepare your hot dogs and hamburgers, use long-handled utensils when flipping burgers to prevent burns from splatter.
  • Stay Away From Fireworks – Firework explosions can be dangerous. Remember to keep a safe distance, keep a portable fire extinguisher close by, and only light fireworks in an area that is dry and fire resistant. (Also — keep in mind that fireworks are illegal in New York).
  • Use Safe Boating Practices – Many boat owners will be heading out on the water today. Remember to keep a safe distance, keep your VHF radio nearby, and to designate a driver if you plan on drinking.
